I have successfully tackled large amounts of work when I have fallen behind, either because of procrastination (oops!), or life events (many babies!).
Take stock. What has helped me most (for example, after taking time off after having a child) is to take an overview of the work I need accomplished (# of pages read over the semester), then break that down to how much I need to do a day. I will give myself a day off, but I will need to do double the next day absolutely no excuses. Breaking things down into bite-size pieces really helps to tackle big problems. I had giant amounts of reading in law school, and this is what helped me.
Removing Work Obstacles. Also, removing obstacles from my work flow. Keep your computer out and ready, supplies ready, desk clean, etc. Make work easy. I just did a vlog on how I removed work obstacles (that were all mental) and finally accomplished a photography project I was procrastinating.
